If you are one of the users, who are seeing this message displayed on the screen when they boot up their computers, you are in trouble. You have been infected with a dreaded parasite. A ransomware. This particular piece is called Globe but it is also known as Purge due to the picture it uses and the file extension it adds to your locked data. What you should do immediately is remove the infection. The longer it stays, the more problematic it gets. Ransomware threats are a menace. They trick you into giving them your permission to enter, then they lock all of your files and blackmail you for money. Globe is no different. If will make your life miserable and it will completely wreck your system.
First, it finds its way in undetected and immediately goes to work. It starts looking for files to encrypt. Your files. All of your pictures, videos, music, Word docs, work-related data, everything you have stored on your PC. For the encryption process, Globe uses the Blowfish encryption algorithm, which is not that common among other ransomware pieces. It locks your files and appends the malicious “.purge” extension at the end of each one. When it is done, you cannot open or see or listen to any of the locked files. Your PC is unable to recognize them due to the modifications Globe made. Also, moving then into a different folder or trying to rename them won`t help you.
Once the parasite has finished with the encryption it replaces your Desktop wallpaper with another one, used for the movie “Purge: Election Year”. Then it drops the ransom note we showed you above, but it is not in the usual TXT file. Globe uses an HTML or an HTA application file to display it. In it, as you can see, crooks explain your current situation claiming that the only way of getting your files back is by obtaining the decryption tool. Of course, it doesn’t come for free. Crooks want you to pay for it. They blackmail you. They have provided an email address via which you are supposed to get in touch with them and receive further instructions. DON`T! Don’t do that no matter what. Contacting them will absolutely worsen your predicament. You cannot make deals which crooks. You will either get double-crossed or you will receive what you paid for, unlock your files but at what cost. The ransomware is still on your computer and it can strike again anytime it wants. Also, you have given these people access to your private life. They have your personal information and they can use it as they see fit.
Last but not least, your money will go directly for more malware development. And all that is IF you pay and IF you receive the decryption key. However, the chances are that even if you pay, you won`t receive anything but all the other issues will still happen. Crooks will still have access to your private like and you would still have sponsored the ransomware industry. Don’t make deals with cybercriminals. They cannot be trusted and there is no possible scenario in which things will end up well for you. Don’t be naïve. There is a better option and we can help you. We have provided a removal guide which will not only remove Globe from your system for good but it will also help you recover your files. And it is absolutely free. You can find it below and all you have to do is strictly follow the steps.
However, removal guides like this one are not always available. Make sure there won`t be another attack like this one. Do you know how Globe infected you this time? It tricked you into letting it in. It asked you for your permission and you said “yes”. Not openly, of course. Ransomware pieces rely on the old but gold means of infiltration but what it needs the most is your carelessness. The most commonly used tactics are spam emails, corrupted links/sites, fake program updates, and, of course, freeware.
Freeware is considered one of the most effective as the majority of users don’t pay enough attention when they download it. They blindly agree to everything, they don’t read the Terms and Conditions, they skip steps, and prefer the Basic options in the Setup Wizard instead of the Advanced ones because they take less time. And that’s exactly what infections need to get it. Your negligence. They pray on it. And not only when downloading freeware. For the other tactics too. Don’t open shady emails but delete them right away. Stay away from unverified sources and don’t click on anything you see displayed on your screen. A little extra attention can save you a ton of issues. To be more prepared, a reliable anti-malware tool will also help you fight infections. Get one, update it regularly and scan your PC to be sure it is safe.
Globe Ransomware Removal
Method 1: Restore your encrypted files using ShadowExplorer
Usually, Globe Ransomware deletes all shadow copies, stored in your computer. Luckily, the ransomware is not always able to delete the shadow copies. So your first try should be restoring the original files from shadow copies.
- Download ShadowExplorer from this link: http://www.shadowexplorer.com/downloads.html.
- Install ShadowExplorer
- Open ShadowExplorer and select C: drive on the left panel
- Choose at least a month ago date from the date field
- Navigate to the folder with encrypted files
- Right-click on the encrypted file
- Select “Export” and choose a destination for the original file
Method 2: Restore your encrypted files by using System Restore
- Go to Start –> All programs –> Accessories –> System tools –> System restore
- Click “Next“
- Choose a restore point, at least a month ago
- Click “Next“
- Choose Disk C: (should be selected by default)
- Click “Next“. Wait for a few minutes and the restore should be done.
Method 3: Restore your files using File Recovery Software
If none of the above method works, you should try to recover encrypted files by using File Recovery Software. Since Globe Ransomware first makes a copy of the original file, then encrypts it and deletes the original one, you can successfully restore the original, using a File Recovery Software. Here are a few free File Recovery Software programs:
