I wrote this article to help you remove Contra Virus. This Contra Virus removal guide works for all Windows versions.
Contra Virus is a fake anti-virus program. The tool is supposed to protect your system from malicious software. Contra Virus does not have the capability of doing this. The program cannot detect viruses and remove them. A good sign about the unreliability of Contra Virus is that it performs tasks without being authorized. It conducts scans and returns bogus results to convince users to buy its full version. Reliable AV tools only work according to the settings the user has made. They do not get installed by themselves or carry out tasks at their own initiative.
How is Contra Virus dangerous for my security?
We have already established that Contra Virus is a useless application. More importantly, we need to explain how it can pose a threat to your security. The clandestine program can apply changes to your registries and your DNS settings. This results in the security of your system dropping down. Your PC will become more vulnerable to malware attacks. All kinds of furtive viruses can sneak in through the security holes Contra Virus creates. This is one of the reasons why you should not allow the malicious program to work on your system.
The other motif against Contra Virus is that it conducts advertising campaigns. In this sense, the rogue program works similar to an adware tool. It generates pop-up advertisements, containing bargain deals for various consumer goods. The product palette encompasses clothes, accessories, furniture, books, games, technological devices, gardening equipment, decorative elements, sports gear and other items. Contra Virus displays different kinds of ads, like pop-ups, pop-unders, in-text links, freebies, coupon boxes, interstitial, transitional, floating, contextual, inline, comparison and full-page ads. To make the windows more noticeable, the shady program decorates them with colorful patterns, flash animations, cursive fonts and other special effects. Keep in mind that the sources behind the ads are unconfirmed. There is a chance for them to lead to malicious websites, used for spreading malware.
Another threat around Contra Virus involves personal security. The rogue program can penetrate your web browser and record the data, stored in it. This includes your browsing history, tracking cookies, keystrokes, IP address, geographic location, email, telephone number, demographic details and login credentials. The gathered input can be sold on darknet markets without your knowledge or consent.
How did Contra Virus get installed to my computer?
If you are certain you did not install Contra Virus to your system yourself, you have been tricked into permitting its install. This could have happened in a couple of ways. The preferred distribution vector for the covert program is bundling. Contra Virus can travel in a merged executable with another tool. The usual hosts for the bogus anti-virus utility are freeware, shareware and pirated copies of licensed programs. When running the installation wizard of a given tool, take the time to read through its terms and conditions. This is where an additional program would be mentioned. You should never agree to have extra tools installed.
The other way for Contra Virus to penetrate your computer is through a spam email. The program can be secluded with an attachment. The sender will tell you that the file is an important document which requires your immediate attention. Be advised that opening the host file for the shady program is all it takes to prompt its install. You should handle your emails with caution. Look up he sender’s details to check if he is who he claims to be.
