The other distribution technique the hijacker has been cited to use is spam emails. The furtive program hides behind attachments. The containing file can be a text document, an image, an archive or a zipped folder. The spammer behind the misleading message will try to convince you that it is a legitimate notification from a reliable entity. The insidious program changes the homepage and default search engine to This website is not a reliable search provider. It includes supported results amid the regular. The sponsored content is considered risky because it does not go through a security check. The owners of the hijacker agree to promote the websites of all paying parties without doing their part to proof their reliability. Reverting back to your original settings is not an option. The rogue program will reset your browser.

The supported content can be brought in a straightforward way. In fact, the majority of the sponsored websites are linked through advertisements. The hijacker generates adverts on a regular basis. The intrusive ads can pop up in new browser windows. They can also appear enclosed within the windows you have currently opened. There are several types of embedded advertisements. The interstitial, inline and contextual ads are stationary. They are situated at a certain place within the page. The floating and transitional ads move around and follow the user, as he scrolls down. In-text links are an unusual case. Certain words within the page are highlighted and underlined. When you hover over them, a small pop-up appears. As long as you do not click on them, you will be safe.

The proprietors of the website are undisclosed. The anonymity allows them not to assume responsibility for people’s security. You will notice that there are no sections for terms of use and privacy policy. The presence of binding agreements is a necessity for all online platforms. They ensure the security of the end user. In certain instances, the interests of the website’s owners are also protected by the regulations set forth. If there is no disclosure on the identity and policy of the entity behind a given website, it is best to avoid visiting it.

Perhaps the biggest threat around the hijacker comes from its ability to monitor users’ browsing sessions and collect information on them. The malevolent program can record your web history, keystrokes and tracking cookies. The aftermath of this activity depends on the purposes you use your computer for. The hijacker can record your email, telephone number, user names, passwords and financial details. The rogue program can also access your IP address and track your geographic location.
