Browser hijackers are nasty parasites that will turn your web experience into complete hell. The Speed Dial New tab extension is an example of such malicious software. Shortly after its invasion, it will alter your browser settings and start generating multiple advertisements that will take over your screen and interrupt any work you’re doing online. What’s worse, it will monitor every step you take on the internet, as well as steal web data like browsing history and search queries, to better customize the promoted content, so the user is more likely to click on it.
The criminals’ end-goal is to create revenue via the pay-per-click scheme. And that’s not all. Hijackers are also able to replace your homepage and new tab pages with a questionable custom site. The same thing applies to your preferred search engine as well. In this case, the custom page is the Speed Dial tab.
Browser hijackers are known to spread via spam emails and attachments, fake update requests, infected links and ads, torrents, freeware, etc. You need to understand, that such malware cannot hack into your PC alone. Hijackers thrive on your negligence and naivety. They can sneak up on you while you install software on your computer. Often what happens is, that the user opts for a Quick install and thus can unknowingly install shady bonus content that can seriously harm the computer system.
In order to make sure such thing does not happen and to be able to view the full content of what is being installed, we recommend selecting Custom or Advanced mode in the Setup Wizard. This way, if there’s any additional software, you’ll be able to spot it right away and can proceed with deselecting it, so it cannot get access to your PC.
Browser hijackers are often underestimated by users. Sure, it might not look very dangerous, but it is not harmless. In fact, it is a serious breach of your online security and privacy. You risk exposing sensitive information such as but not limited to passwords, IP addresses, bank accounts, credit card numbers, Login ID, etc. Valuable data like that is very appealing to cyber criminals, and they will aim to obtain it, in order to share it with other third-parties for profit.
Personal and financial data is not the only thing that is at stake here. By keeping this parasite unattended, you risk it corrupting your browser to the point of its total destruction. You see, the longer you delay acting against this hijacker, the more time you give it to increase the ad content it generates. Sooner or later, your browser will be unable to keep up with the numerous ads that are thrown its way and will start to crash and freeze on a daily basis. At some point, it will stop responding entirely and you won’t be able to do any kind of work on the internet.
If you want to return to a secure and ad-free browsing experience, we strongly advise that you move quickly and remove this annoying browser hijacker before it is able to cause serious damages that you cannot undo.
