Software security company Kaspersky Lab has just released Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware Tool for Business on the market. The software is available free of charge. It functions as an additional security protection tool. Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware Tool for Business analyzes the activity of each program, functioning on the operating system (OS). It has the ability to distinguish ransomware behavioral patterns. Once such a program is detected, it gets blocked and its activity is reversed.
Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware Tool was developed to protect from a particular type of cyber threat – ransomware. The utility is concentrated on the most devastating variant of this virus family, known as cryptomalware. This type of ransomware infection encrypts all essential files on the targeted machine or computer network. It is not possible to recover the encrypted files without a key. The developers of cryptomalware demand very large sums to provide the decryption key.
Konstantin Voronkov, head of endpoint product management at Kaspersky Lab, explained that the tool was made compatible with all existing anti-malware applications. “Kaspersky Anti-Ransomware Tool for Business is compatible with third-party security solutions, and is a complementary measure against ransomware. We decided to distribute it free of charge to give companies the opportunity to evaluate the power of Kaspersky Lab technologies”.
With the current cyber climate, additional protection against ransomware is more than welcome. As Kaspersky Labs reported, ransomware attacks on businesses have increased almost six-fold over the past year. To put the statistics in numbers, the attacks increased from 27 thousand to 158.6 thousand. Nearly 42% of all SMBs have had their systems infected with ransomware in the last 12 months. They faced severe aftermath. 34% of the victims paid the ransom. 20% out of them did not have their data restored pursuant to meeting the demands of the cyber criminals.
