Google is focusing on the application quality at the Play Store in order to help users find the apps which won’t affect their devices.
According to the latest announcement by Google, the company is targeting applications that cause slow render times, excessive battery usage, and crashes, explaining that users should avoid them as these can become “a source of frustration” for them.
Due to the above-mentioned, the new search and discovery algorithms focus mostly on quality with applications experiencing performance issues to be harder to find.
“We recently enhanced our search and discovery algorithms to reflect app quality. This results in higher quality apps being surfaced in the Play store more than similar apps of lower quality (eg: apps that exhibit more frequent crashes). The change has had a positive impact on engagement — we’ve seen that people go on to use higher quality apps more and uninstall them less,” the Product Manager of Google Play says.
By declaring war to the bulky phone applications, the first thing that Google achieves is reducing the chances of users coming across apps which affect the device performance by focusing entirely on the high-quality apps in the search feature.
The second positive thing is that Google makes the developers optimize their apps in order to remain relevant in the Google Play Store and increase the chances of downloading apps by users.
Another thing that Google does, is providing a number of tools to help developers optimize their applications. Among these tools is Android vitals which shows performance issues found on devices that have already installed the application.
In addition, Google advises the app creators to regularly check the users ratings and reviews, as these who experience problems with their applications usually address the Play Store to complain about a specific feature or bug and contact the developer.
The new algorithm for Android users is already available, meaning that the search results in the Play Store should not display applications which may cause the devices crashes or any other performance issues anymore.
