First of all, let’s take a look at the distribution methods WizzRSS employs. If you haven’t installed it by yourself, this utility tricked you into giving it access to your system. It may have arrived as a bundled program to some freeware or shareware you downloaded off the Internet. Developers tend to hide extra programs under a custom/advanced tab or button. They would also present that installation method as a suitable choice for IT experts only. This is a deception. The developers want you to select the standard installation method because, under it, you won’t be able to deny the installation of the extra apps that come along. This is the main reason the WizzRSS utility is classified as a PUP.

Other common PUP distribution methods are spam emails, torrents, corrupted links and ads. The key to a secure and infection-free computer is caution. Whatever you are installing, take some time to read the terms and conditions/EULA. Abort the installation if you spot anything out of the ordinary. This step is a bit more time-consuming, but it can spare you troubles in the future. Also, don’t open emails from strangers. Check their contacts first. For example, if you receive a letter from an organization, visit their official website. There, on the contact page, you will be able to find their official email address. Compare it with the one you have received a letter from. If they don’t match, delete it on the spot.

Once on board, WizzRSS will start to spy on you. It collects data about your online activities. It knows your browsing history, which pages you visit, your search inquiries and your favorite websites. The malicious utility will use this data to select ads that will appeal especially to you. The dangerous part is that WizzRSS will not keep this information for itself. It will send it to its owners. And they can do whatever they want with it. Including selling it for a bigger profit. Keep in mind that your user names and passwords can be a part of the collected data. Can you imagine what will happen if a hacker buys that information? Be careful where you are logging in to. Otherwise, you may lose more than your privacy.

WizzRSS acts as an open door for many online threats. The ads it displays so freely can link you to infected websites. There, a drive-by download can be executed. A drive-by download is a term used to describe downloads that start automatically and are almost completely invisible to the user. Even if you have specialized software that can notify you if such an event occurs, these downloads are so fast that you will not be able to close your web browser on time to cancel them. For all these reasons, drive-by downloads are often used by hackers for malware distribution.

All those issues aside, let’s not forget how annoying the advertisements can be. WizzRSS uses the so-called pay-per-click marketing. The more ads you click on, the bigger revenue the people behind the PUP generate. Hence, WizzRSS will expose you to as many ads as possible. Soon, your screen will be covered in all kinds of coupons, great deals, special discounts and so on. WizzRSS is working on your CPU and uses a lot of RAM. The more ads you see, the more RAM is consumed. It can slow your computer down to a crawl and cause your system to crash. Can you imagine getting any work done in such conditions? Don’t put up with that.

WizzRSS will use all tricks up its sleeve. At the most unexpected time, it will open a pop-up window under the cursor of your mouse. This maneuver is meant to trick you into clicking on ads unintentionally. As we already explained, such ads may be malicious. Don’t risk your computer’s health. Track this parasite down and delete it immediately.

Run the Task Manager by right clicking on the Taskbar and choosing Start Task Manager.

Look carefully at the file names and descriptions of the running processes. If you find any suspicious one, search on Google for its name, or contact me directly to identify it. If you find a malware process, right-click on it and choose End task.
