How to Remove ByteFence (Chrome/Firefox)

I wrote this article to help you remove ByteFence. This ByteFence removal guide works for all Windows versions.

ByteFence is a rogue anti-virus program. The tool is presented as a legitimate anti-malware utility on its official website. According to the description on bytefence.com, the program gives free protection against malware and spyware. The software is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Polish, Russian and Portuguese. Its official website and user interface are professionally designed which can lead you to believe the program is reliable. This is not the case. ByteFence can lead to more problems rather than solve existing issues.

How is ByteFence a threat to my security?

The security alerts ByteFence displays are fake. The covert program does not have the capabilities of legitimate anti-virus tools. It cannot detect or remove actual threats. There is no merit to the warning messages which derive from it. ByteFence conducts bogus scans and returns concerning results to get people worked up. The program will tell you there is a bunch of serious threats on your system which need to be tended to. The reports can list up to hundreds of infections.

The purpose of the insidious program is to convince people to purchase its full version. Although the tool is said to be free to use, the catch is that ByteFence only works for free when detecting potential threats. In order to remove them, the user has to upgrade to the full version. This is not mentioned on the program’s official website. Purchasing the full version of ByteFence is not advised. As we already noted, the utility is useless. It does not have the ability to guard your system from infections. Trusting ByteFence to protect your computer would be a mistake. You should turn to confirmed anti-malware tools for protection. ByteFence needs to be removed from your system. In fact, a legitimate AV utility would detect it as a threat and delete it.

The developers of ByteFence have a backup plan for when their software does not get purchased. The rogue program is set to track users’ browsing sessions and record information from their browser. This encompasses your browsing history, tracking cookies, IP address, geographic location, phone number, email, user names, passwords and personal account entries. The owners of the rogue anti-virus utility will sell your personal data on darknet markets without asking for your permission or notifying you.

How is ByteFence distributed?

ByteFence is available for download from its official website, bytefence.com. There are a few buttons on the homepage. If you do not recall deciding to acquire the program, you may be wondering how it was installed to your computer. This could happen. ByteFence makes use of a couple of underhanded techniques, known as dark patterns.

The first and more popular method is bundling. The furtive tool can be merged with another program, like a freeware application or a pirated utility. The host program will offer ByteFence as a free bonus. There is an option to deselect extra tools, but you have to find where they are inserted amid the terms and conditions. Skipping through the steps in haste and accepting the default settings is not advisable.

The other way to contact ByteFence is through a spam email. The shady program can lurk behind an attached file. Spammers try to get users to open attachments by listing them as important documents. The person may introduce himself as a representative of an existing company or entity, like the postal office, a courier firm, a bank, a government branch or the local police department. To check if a given message from your in-box is genuine, proof the email account it was sent from. This is the best sign.
