I wrote this article to help you remove Tohotweb. This Tohotweb removal guide is working for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
Tohotweb is a website which provides a search engine and a number of useful and fun features. There are advanced settings for images, videos, news, games and languages. Tohotweb has a special section for hotel and booking searches. The website’s developers maintain a forum. Tohotweb publishes news articles on many relevant topics and promotes shopping offers for a variety of items. The platform is targeted at users from the following countries: United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Canada, South Africa, Nigeria, India, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Australia, Poland, United Arab Emirates, Thailand and Vietnam. Tohotweb is not what it appears to be. The domain is exploited by a browser hijacker for malicious purposes.
What dangers does the hijacker behind Tohotweb expose my system to?
The Tohotweb hijacker targets the web browser because it is an essential part of users’ daily routine. The clandestine program will change your settings. Your homepage and default search engine will be reset to tohotweb.com. This gives the hijacker the ability to tamper with your search results. The main task of the shady program is to conduct advertising campaigns. The Tohotweb hijacker promotes third party content in a couple of ways. The first method is seamless. The furtive program alters the search results. It inserts sponsored pages amid the regular results to the entered queries.
The other way to bring supported websites to users’ attention is by showing them advertisements. The Tohotweb hijacker will bombard your screen with ads on a constant basis. You may not realize that all the ads come from the same source, as they will be brought in different formats. This includes classic pop-up and pop-under windows, banners, in-text links, coupon boxes, freebies, contextual, interstitial, transitional, floating, inline, comparison and full-page ads. To get users intrigued, the covert program focuses on shopping deals. The Tohotweb hijacker will show you bargain offers for a variety of items. Keep in mind that the suggested listings could be fake. It is uncertain where the windows lead to. Any of them could redirect you to a corrupted website, containing malware.
There is a risk for your personal security, as well. Another way for the Tohotweb hijacker to monetize its activity is by collecting and selling information on computer users. The insidious program records browsing histories, tracking cookies, keystrokes, IP addresses, geographic locations, phone numbers, email accounts, user names, passwords and other private details. The people who buy your data could use it to break into your accounts and steal from them.
How did I get infected with the Tohotweb hijacker?
It is highly likely that you never visited tohotweb.com before your problems began. If you found the website set to your browser with no reasonable explanation, you had made a mistake beforehand. The insidious program has ways of entering computers undetected. The first technique we will address is bundling. The Tohotweb hijacker can merge its executable with the setup file of another program and get installed together with it. Extra tools are included as part of the terms and conditions of the main program. You have to find where this option is listed and change the setting.
The other propagation vector the Tohotweb hijacker utilizes is spam emails. The secluded tool latches onto attached files, such as text documents, images, archives, zip folders, spreadsheets and others. To garner the recipient’s attention, the sender writes a convincing message. You will be instructed to open the file which the person will describe as an important document. Doing so would result in an instant infection. When you receive an unexpected email, check the contacts to confirm it is legitimate.
