Everalbum is a file storage platform for photos. You can create an account and upload your albums to the domain. The website, everalbum.zendesk.com, accommodates English, Arabic, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Chinese. The services of Everalbum may be convenient, but the website does not have a good reputation. The domain has been labeled with a red flag because it is associated to an adware program. The rogue tool can cause a lot of security problems.

What threats does the Everalbum adware involve?

The clandestine tool displays shopping advertisements on its own initiative. Advertising is not in any way associated to the website’s original purpose and it is not a bonus function. The adware generates ads for the benefit of its developers. The purpose of the shady program is to raise revenue. Everalbum promotes third party websites through the advertisements. They contain embedded links to sponsored platforms. The owners of the supported sites pay for this activity. It is considered a marketing service.

There are certain conditions, though. Payments are only made for getting users to follow the ads. Just showing them the content is not sufficient. For this reason, Everalbum has adopted marketing tricks to improve its success rate. The shady program makes the windows colorful and animates elements from them. The majority of the ads are for shopping goods. The adware uses the special effects to highlight the bargain deals. As enticing as the proposed offers are, you should not take advantage of them. Keep in mind that they could be fake. Clicking on an ad could result in a redirect and a malware infection.

It is easy to recognize the ads, generated by Everalbum. The rogue program flags them with indicative phrases like “Ads by Everalbum”, “Brought to you by Everalbum” and “Powered by Everalbum”. The owners of the Everalbum website have take precautions to avoid being sought responsible for security issues. The platform’s customer service is maintained by Zendesk, Inc., an outsourcing company from San Francisco, California. The security and privacy section on the official website of Everalbum does not include an end user license agreement (EULA) or a privacy policy.

How is the Everalbum adware distributed?

Contrary to common belief, Everalbum is not spread through the website it is associated to. The rogue program relies on external sources for its distribution. The preferred technique is bundling. The shady tool hitches a ride with another program. It can be bundled with freeware, shareware and pirated apps. There is a way to prevent the adware from getting installed, but users often miss the opportunity. The furtive tool can be found listed in the terms and conditions of the download client as a bonus. All you have to do is deselect it. If you are in the habit of accepting the default settings, you would allow it in.

Everalbum Removal

Before starting the real removal process, you must reboot in Safe Mode. If you are familiar with this task, skip the instructions below and proceed to Step 2. If you do not know how to do it, here is how to reboot in Safe mode:

For Windows 98, XP, Millenium and 7:
Reboot your computer. When the first screen of information appears, start repeatedly pressing F8 key. Then choose Safe Mode With Networking from the options.

For Windows 8/8.1
Click the Start button, next click Control Panel —> System and Security —> Administrative Tools —> System Configuration.‌

Check the Safe Boot option and click OK. Click Restart when asked.
For Windows 10
Open the Start menu and click or tap on the Power button.

While keeping the Shift key pressed, click or tap on Restart.

Here are the steps you must perform to remove the hijacker from the browser:

Remove From Mozilla Firefox:

Open Firefox, click on top-right corner , click Add-ons, hit Extensions next.

Look for suspicious or unknown extensions, remove them all.

Remove From Chrome:

Open Chrome, click chrome menu icon at the top-right corner —>More Tools —> Extensions. There, identify the malware and select chrome-trash-icon(Remove).

Remove From Internet Explorer:
Open IE, then click IE gear icon on the top-right corner —> Manage Add-ons.

Find the malicious add-on. Remove it by pressing Disable.

Right click on the browser’s shortcut, then click Properties. Remove everything after the .exe” in the Target box.

Open Control Panel by holding the Win Key and R together. Write appwiz.cpl in the field, then click OK.

Here, find any program you had no intention to install and uninstall it.

Run the Task Manager by right clicking on the Taskbar and choosing Start Task Manager.

Look carefully at the file names and descriptions of the running processes. If you find any suspicious one, search on Google for its name, or contact me directly to identify it. If you find a malware process, right-click on it and choose End task.

Open MS Config by holding the Win Key and R together. Type msconfig and hit Enter.

Go in the Startup tab and Uncheck entries that have “Unknown” as Manufacturer.
