DPower “Virus” Removal

I wrote this article to help you remove DPower. This DPower removal guide is working for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.

DPower is a rogue advertising program. The malicious tool is presented as a shopping helper meant to assist users in their online purchases. DPower is supposed to find bargain shopping deals on the web and forward them your way. In reality, the shady program links to supported websites which are not confirmed to be reliable. DPower generates pop-up ads. This is a common method of advertising. Due to its risky nature, the tool has been categorized as adware.

How is DPower a threat to my security?

DPower is a typical ad-supported program. The furtive tool promotes sponsored content in exchange for a certain payment. The developers of the adware receive commissions for getting users to click on the ads. This payment technique is called the pay-per-click system. To lure people in, DPower shows them bargain deals for luxurious shopping goods. The product palette encompasses items like clothes, technological devices, furniture, accessories, decorative elements, sports gear, games, toys and others.

The adware does not take any precautions to protect users from potential security threats. The furtive program promotes the content of all paid advertisers without running a security scan of their websites. This places the burden of the risk on the shoulders of the end user. The ads DPower produces could lead you to compromised websites, infused with malware. The covert program displays different kinds of pop-up ads, including banners, in-text links, coupon boxes, freebies, inline, contextual, transitional, floating, interstitial, comparison and full-page ads. It is advised to discard unconfirmed ads in general.

Another way for DPower to monetize its activity is by collecting information on users and selling it on darknet markets. The insidious program will keep track of your every move and record all accessible data from your browser. DPower can get a hold of your browsing history, cookies, IP address, email, geographic location, zip code, demographic details, telephone number, user names and passwords. The only way to prohibit the tracking activity is by uninstalling the clandestine program.

How did I get infected with DPower?

Some adware tools have an official website where they are marketed as reliable software. DPower is not among these tools. The secluded program is only distributed through dark patterns. It can merge its setup file with the executable of freeware, shareware and pirated utilities. DPower will be offered as a bonus with the program you have decided to add to your PC. You need to find where it is mentioned in its terms and conditions and uncheck it. A bad habit many users have is to accept the default settings.

Spam emails are another means of transportation for DPower. The covert program uses attachments to get transmitted to users’ machines. The person behind the email can use a macro, a script or a corrupt system file to facilitate the transferal. In this instance, opening the carrier attachment will be enough to initiate the download and install of the adware. To weed out the spam from your in-box, check the data the sender has provided. The contacts from the letter should match the coordinates of the entity he is writing on behalf of.

Compromised websites and links can also serve as a host for DPower. Clicking on a malicious link is enough to prompt the download and install of the insidious program. When surfing the web, take the time to confirm the reliability of the websites you intend to visit. Check if there are comments, articles or bulletins regarding their security status.
