New Adware Hijacks Browsers Using Custom Firefox Profile

The security researchers from Malwarebytes have recently discovered a brand new browser hijacker called GsearchFinder. The newly-found hijacker takes over great part of your browser settings and redirects your search queries via YesSearches and HohoSearch services.

According to Malwarebytes, the new browser hijacker application has been discovered bundled with other software such as Amonetize, OutBrowse, SoftPulse and Somoto.

The security experts claim that there are particular versions which target Google Chrome and Firefox, though the Firefox version uses a non-standard trick to hijack the browser’s settings.

Unlike other browser hijackers that work by altering Firefox’s settings associated with the current profile, GsearchFinder creates a brand new profile, where it makes all its changes.

The researchers from Malwarebytes claim that they have also seen GsearchFinder pushing unwanted adverts to infected victims every two hours. This means that apart from being a creepy browser hijacker, GsearchFinder is a nasty adware as well. Thus, users should keep their eyes wide-open.
