Google Announced New Tools to Boost Account Security

Yesterday, Google introduced several new tools and protection mechanisms for boosting account security. The new tools can also help users recover their accounts if being compromised.

Nowadays hackers compromise lots of user accounts stealing their usernames and passwords. Thus, Google announced new tools for boosting account security.

Due to the fact that many users haven’t enabled two-factor authentication, Google has developed an additional layer of security during the login process.

When users enter their username and password on the sign-in page, a risk assessment runs and the login is only successful if there is nothing suspicious. Nevertheless, because of the risk assessment, Google advises users to enable JavaScript.

In addition, the company said that JavaScript is enabled by default in most web browsers, however, 0.1% of its customers have disabled it. When JavaScript is disabled, the risk assessment cannot be completed and authentication fails.

When users log in, the Security Checkup tool which Google introduced last year, improves the security of their account by offering customized guidance.

The company has been constantly enhancing the Security Checkup tool and added protection against harmful mobile applications based on recommendations from Google Play Protect. Now, the tool also lets users remove their account from devices they don’t use anymore.

While Google notifies users when third-party websites or apps are given access to Gmail and Google Contacts data, it will also add Google Accounts to the list.

If any user account has been compromised, Google will provide a step-by-step process which helps users check security settings, protect other accounts linked to the hacked account, verify financial activity to see if payment methods linked to the account have been abused, and review the files in Gmail and Google Drive to determine if they have been accessed or misused.
