I wrote this article to help you remove MyPoints Score. This MyPoints Score removal guide works for Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.

MyPoints Score is a program for online shopping. It provides various kinds of shopping deals and coupons. Additionally, the tool’s website gives you the option to sign up for a chance to get rewards. It also covers some entertainment topics like traveling and games. The features include videos, surveys and games. You can register on MyPoints Score’s official website to use the extra features and complete for the chance to win prizes. The site has official social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

MyPoints Score is said to have been in business since 1996, while its site has been active since 2004. Judging by its description, the tool may sound like a good application, but it is far from being such. Security experts have noticed some faults in its functionality. Particularly, the program generates unwanted pop-up advertisements. They feature various kinds of shopping offers which may seem good, but their source sites are unconfirmed. An ad could lead you to compromised pages which spread malware. The other problem with MyPoints Score is that it monitors people’s online activity and collects different kinds of data from their browser, including information which should be kept confidential. It can record your saved user names and passwords. This data is sold to interested third parties who may have criminal intentions. For these reasons, MyPoints Score is categorized as adware.

MyPoints Score has an official website called mypoints.com. This domain is used to market the tool, but it does not provide a download link. Still, the adware is spread to computers all around the world on a daily basis. The reason for this is that it has discovered a way to get distributed without the users willingly downloading and installing it. MyPoints Score is purposely unavailable from its own website, so that it does not get exposed for its faults.

The adware travels in bundles with other programs. In most cases, the tool merges itself into the setup file of freeware and shareware applications. It chooses these kinds of programs because users are inclined to download and install them without taking any security precautions. MyPoints Score comes as an extra tool which can be installed in parallel with the program you have willingly acquired. The additional software does not run its own installation wizard. It is only mentioned in the terms and conditions. You need to remove the check mark from the box next to it. This is why you should never omit reading the user agreement. It is best to take security precautions to spare yourself any unnecessary issues.

MyPoints Score is developed to render its own settings. The adware will launch itself at system start-up and work on the background. It will start generating pop-up advertisements, containing various product deals. They will offer exceptionally low prices and discounts. The ads will come in the forms of pop-up and pop-under windows, coupon boxes, banners, in-text links, contextual, floating, comparison, inline and floating ads. MyPoints Score will make them colorful and use special fonts and flash animations to attract your attention. The adware embeds links into the ad windows without disclosing which sites they come from. Following them would be gambling with your security.

On MyPoints Score’s official website, it is disclosed that the entity behind it is called MyPoints.com, Inc. It is a company from San Francisco, California. According to the terms of service (TOS), the entity is not held accountable for any problems people may encounter by using it. If you get infected with malware from a pop-up ad, you will have to cover your own losses. The privacy policy states that MyPoints Score will collect information from your browser. By using the tool, you agree to this. The data the adware can gather on you extends to some details which should be kept confidential, like your IP, e-mail and physical address, your country of origin, user names, passwords and other sensitive data.

To prevent having your system infected with malware and your accounts hacked, you have to uninstall MyPoints Score as soon as possible. There is a removal guide below to help you with the process. After conducting the manual removal, you should do an automatic scan of your machine with an AV program to check if any other clandestine tools were able to sneak in with the adware’s help or together with it.
